I woke in the middle of the night and discovered that my husband was gone? Where do you think he went, to the hospital of course for Abby's 2am feeding. John just can't get enough of his little peanut. This little girl has totally captivated his heart. She just loves to hear her daddy's voice and fall asleep in his arms. Yesterday when we were suppose to be packing to go home, John lost track of time and was playing Enya to miss Abby on his I-phone in the NICU. Abby always eats more when here daddy is feeding her and consistantly does better the feedings he is present.
Early this morning they took the IV out of Abby's head while John was holding her! This means her blood sugars are very stable and she is one step closer to coming home. They also moved her to the step down nursery, which is for baby's who can maintain their own temperature and aren't hooked up to all the oxygen monitors. Abby weighed 4 pounds 3 oz - 24 hours after birth, the nurse called late last night and said Abby weighed in at 4 pounds 5 oz - 48 hours after birth. She is growing and eating and sleeping! She is also on a nice schedule - her feeding/touch times are 2,5,8,11 - 24 hours a day, which is when she is fed, changed, alert, and active. The remaining 2 hours in-between feeds she sleeps and recovers for her next feeding.
The only "device" left on Abby is her feeding tube which will deliver the feeds she doesn't complete, thanks to Daddy's diligence she hasn't had to be tube fed since yesterday morning! Praise the Lord, its amazing how much improvement can happen in a 24 hour period! Abby is very close to coming home!
