Haltom City Makeover

Press release:
As part of their ongoing partnership with The Academy at West Birdville, NorthWood Church in Keller will be transforming the homes of four Haltom City families October 12 and 13. Nearly 700 members of NorthWood Church will be sprucing up the homes of four families whose children attend The Academy at West Birdville in Haltom City. According to the Texas Education Agency, ninety percent of the school’s children come from economically disadvantaged families. Last spring, children submitted essays to the school’s faculty on why their home needed a home make over. Recipient families were selected by The Academy’s faculty for next Friday and Saturday’s 24 hour make over. NorthWood members will be landscaping, painting, installing new appliances, carpet, bath fixtures, repairing roofs and providing other various minor repairs. The selected families will enjoy an evening at a local hotel and Saturday at Six Flags while NorthWood is transforming their homes. Thursday, October 11 at 7pm the families and faculty of The Academy will participate in a kick-off rally/worship service at NorthWood Church.
Since 2004, NorthWood Church has been serving staff and families of The Academy at West Birdville. In 2007, NorthWood has provided free school supplies for the children, tutoring, ESL training for parents and the Kids CafĂ©, an evening meal program for many latch-key children that attend the school. Lindy Andrews, Principal of The Academy says “it’s a tremendous encouragement knowing that there is another group of people that care as much about our students and community as we do.” When asked why the church is conducting the make over, Chris Shabay, Northwood’s Director of Community Development says, “that’s what the church should do; serve others who may not be quite as fortunate as we are. That’s really the definition of community in action.”
[If you would like to serve in this opportunity by volunteering your time or donating needed items and services, please contact the Glocal Impact Office at 817.431.2088×125. We would love to have all NorthWoodians and others join us in this effort. Thanks.
Also, don’t miss the Project Worship Service Kickoff on Oct, 11 at 7 pm in the Worship Center. We are hoping that all the families we are working with can come experience NorthWood with us.]
